New York politicians have laughed at the lack of federal support for COVID-19 for months.
The state is also not rushing to spend the COVID-19 money it received from the federal government.
Sheila Poole, commissioner for the State Department of Child and Family Services, recently testified ahead of a state budget hearing. The lack of emergency COVID funds being paid out was one of the issues facing Senator George Borrello at R-Sunset Bay.
Borrello first raised awareness of the problem last August when Borrello and the area’s childcare workers said nearly half of the region’s childcare workers had closed their doors. Many, Borrello said, are unlikely to reopen.
