Proffee is the latest nutrition trend from TikTok that combines protein shakes and coffee. It’s not a bad source of protein, but if you think it will be a good alternative to a frappucino, you will likely be disappointed.
A proffee is usually made by mixing a bottled protein shake with cold brewed coffee over ice, although you can use any protein and type of coffee you like. Some people add flavored syrups and even whipped cream.
Does it make a good protein drink?
Protein shakes are a convenient way to include protein in your diet we discussed beforehand. You don’t need a protein shake after your workout (or at any other time). It’s okay to only eat high-protein foods throughout the day. But if you find protein drinks convenient then they are absolutely a hack.
Since most proffee recipes use a bottled protein shake, they contain just as much protein as the shake you are using. Check the label as they vary! ON premier Vanilla shake has 30 grams of protein and 160 calories in 11 ounces while the Atkins version has the same calories but half the protein.

The rest of the shake contains the nutrients you entered. Coffee is very low in calories (around 5 calories in a large cup, unsweetened). Just mixing the shake and some coffee gives you basically the same nutrients as the shake, plus some coffee flavor and loads of water. When you add syrups and whipped cream, you add a lot more sugar and calories.
Does it make a good coffee?
Of all accounts … not really. The Insider team tried a couple of protein coffeesto judge them okay, but not necessarily an improvement over drinking the protein shake itself.
If you have a proffee instead of ordering one of the Starbucks sweetened drinks, which is basically a milkshake, then it probably has better macros. But it doesn’t really taste like a frappucino either. If you want a frappucino this bad, you should probably just order one and adjust the rest of your calories that day if necessary to adjust it.
If you want more protein in your diet, you need to drink proffee regularly to make a difference. Are foods with added protein usually not worthwhile unless you carefully plan them into your diet. If you love proffee, beat yourself up, but don’t think that drinking a glass of it every now and then will make a huge difference in your diet.
