A mother has revealed that she is forcing her seven-year-old daughter to pay bills and rent to teach her the value of money – and this has sparked heated debate.
The mother, whose name is Felicia, said the little girl did chores every week to make money.
In a parent hack video that was viewed more than 6.6 million times on TikTok, the woman said, “Every week my daughter has a list of tasks.
“If these tasks were done on a daily basis, she would be paid $ 9.07 at the end of the week.”
The mother added that the girl then had to pay bills for living in the family home.
She said, “$ 1.29 for food, water, electricity, internet, and rent – a total of $ 6.46 for bills.
“She has $ 2.58 left to keep and save or spend.”
Felicia takes the $ 6.46 for bills and puts them in a savings account for her daughter that she can access when she is 18.
The mother hopes that her child will understand the value of money as she earned everything herself.
She adds that she’s only getting her child to do “age-appropriate tasks” that she found on Pinterest.
These jobs include vacuuming, cleaning toilets, taking out trash cans, preparing meals, making her bed every day, and picking up after yourself.
The mother changes housework every week, often turning it into a game so that the girl has more fun with it.
The video made people argue about whether the method was a good idea.
One person said the little girl was “too young to pay for a life she didn’t ask for,” and another agreed, saying:
“That’s cute and all, but your kids are way too young to pay for a life they didn’t ask for. You should take care of your children. “
