China’s regulatory motion towards the healthcare sector, outlook for traders

China’s health sector is likely to be the next to be scrutinized, analysts warn, as the country’s regulators crack down on everything from technology to education to data security.

Chinese President Xi Jinping this week reiterated the need to support moderate prosperity for all – or the “common prosperity” idea that he has been promoting for months.

That’s what drives the spate of corporate crackdowns, analysts say.

“‘Shared prosperity’ remains an idea that is still looking for an implementation strategy,” said Rory Green, China economist at TS Lombard. “Right now it is much easier to regulate industry and capital markets than to initiate structural reforms.”

He predicted that next to the real estate market, Beijing’s health care system would be Beijing’s next destination.

The healthcare industry is one of the country’s so-called “three big mountains,” referring to rising costs in education, real estate, and healthcare – all of which are barriers to affordable living.

The health care system is “the only one that has not yet been affected by regulatory scrutiny” and “particularly at risk,” said Green in a statement on August 31.

The Chinese government had previously promised to keep prices in check, but efforts will now be stepped up, Capital Economics said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Public housing and healthcare are likely to expand, while private medical providers and real estate developers may soon face greater restrictions on their ability to price and make profits,” wrote Julian Evans-Pritchard, chief China economist at Capital Economics.

Chinese regulators have already tightened restrictions on the country’s education sector, targeting billions of dollars in the after-school tutoring segment.

China stocks could fall another 15%

China’s crackdown last year affected a wide range of industries, from technology to education to food delivery.

That has led to heavy sell-offs in Chinese stocks, which have wiped billions of dollars from technology stocks over the past few months.

So far this year, China’s healthcare stocks have outperformed the broader Chinese indices.

MSCI’s Chinese health index has fallen slightly below the flat line since the start of the year, while the MSCI China index is down more than 13%..

But some healthcare stocks, especially companies that use technology platforms, are already suffering. JD Health, for example, is down nearly 50% this year. Alibaba Health has slumped more than 40% since the beginning of the year.

Green said TS Lombard predicts the MSCI China index could fall another 10-15% in the worst case scenario.

He cautioned investors to be cautious, saying that political risk would remain elevated until the Chinese Communist Party’s 20th National Congress next year.

“The political calendar is charged and with cadres eager to build populist credibility to advertise, political control of the markets is likely to remain elevated – rather than weakened – over the coming months,” Green wrote.

What could be safer to buy? The so-called government favorites, said Green. These include relatively safe sectors such as technical hardware, clean energy and defense.

How high-intensity feelings (even the nice ones) tire us

0

If you’ve ever felt an onslaught of intense emotions – be it a positive one, like a touch of happiness, or a negative one, like an outburst of anger – you’ve likely experienced the crash that comes when those emotions wear off. While we usually think of exhaustion in physical terms, it can also be psychological. If you come home exhausted after a long day at work, even though you have only sat at your desk all day, it is due to mental exhaustion.

As Emma Seppälä, lecturer at the Yale School of Management and author of The lucky trail, noted in a Harvard Business Review article, one of the contributors to mental exhaustion are highly intense emotions. Too many of these high intensity emotions, positive or negative, can lead to burnout.

Emotions can be classified according to intensity

One way that psychologists classify emotions is to differentiate them according to two dimensions, which include high and low intensity and positive and negative. High-intensity positive emotions include excitement and elation, while low-intensity positive emotions include calm, serenity, or contentment. When it comes to negative emotions, high-intensity emotions include anger, fear, and fear, while low-intensity emotions include sadness, boredom, and fatigue.

It’s easy to see how stressful high-intensity negative emotions like anger can be. What we don’t think about that much is the fact that high-intensity positive emotions are also exhausting, albeit in a completely different way.

Highly intense emotions cause you to crash afterwards

When you experience high levels of excitement or happiness, those feelings don’t last forever, and when they wear off there is this crash that comes after.

As Seppälä writes:

Excitement, even if it’s fun, involves what psychologists call “physiological arousal” – the activation of our sympathetic (fight-or-flight) system. High intensity positive emotions involve the same physiological arousal as high intensity negative emotions such as fear or anger. Our heart rate increases, our sweat glands are activated and we are easily frightened. Because it activates the body’s stress response, if excitement persists, it can deplete our system – chronic stress affects our immunity, memory, and attention span. In other words, high intensity – be it through negative states like fear or positive states like excitement – stresses the body.

Some people are predisposed to feel emotions more intensely

CA 15-20% of people are considered to be highly sensitivewhich, in part, means they experience emotions more intensely than others. These are the people who when they are happy are really happy, and when they are sad they are heartbroken. As they go through the ups and downs of life, the increased intensity makes them more prone to exhaustion than others.

Even for people who are not highly sensitive, there are certainly situations when it is easy to forego an intense emotion, be it an overwhelming excitement or a strong fear. For many of us, the past year has been a source of intense anxiety that includes people who are usually fairly balanced in normal times.

Emotional balance is the key

That is not to say that we should never experience intense emotions. Emotional diversity is an essential aspect of life that gives us the depth and richness that we need. What we have to look out for, however, is balance. There will be the exciting days, as well as the days when stress and anxiety drive you through the tough times, but there are other, less intense emotions that serve us well in many other situations without placing undue stress on your body.

The key to dealing with emotions without burning out is balance. To counteract the stress of high-intensity emotions, consciously take time to engage in quieter activities that lead to emotions such as contentment or serenity.

Learn how to Train Your self to Strive (and Like) New Meals

0

Picky food isn’t just for kids. There are many adults who avoid certain ingredients or dishes for various reasons. Whether you grew up in a place devoid of diverse culinary options, grew up in a culture or religion that kept you away from certain foods, or just hate olives, there are easy ways to enhance your taste experience – if you want.

Take the opportunity to try out new foods at a reasonable price

Without exaggeration, there are millions of foods that you could try. You will never try all of them, but if you want to try some, we recommend that you do so first so that you are not financially ruined. Don’t order a whole plate of an unfamiliar meal in a new restaurant and drop a lot of money if you are not used to it. If you hate it, you will get hungry and a little poorer than you were a short time ago. Plus, you might even get a little upset, which doesn’t necessarily make you ready to move on with your sampling plan.

Instead, try new foods whenever they’re cheap or free. At a party, try to try all the hors d’oeuvres and ask exactly what is in them. To keep yourself from screwing up, maybe ask what’s in them after you try them, unless you have allergies or food restrictions.

Think of a buffet too! As we adjust to our new lifestyles after the pandemic, some buffets are making a triumphant return, albeit with new security restrictions. A package that lets you choose from a variety of pre-made dishes is perfect for trying new flavors without breaking the bank.

Take a DIY approach

Sometimes, if something is to be done right, you have to do it yourself – in life and in the kitchen. As you prepare dinner, make a goal to eat at least one new thing, even if everything else you prepare that evening is from your tried and tested recipe sequence.

“I love to cook,” says Matt McClain, a 33-year-old Brooklyn native who admits that he is a picky eater. “It’s something that can keep me eating the same thing every day, but it’s something that allows me to also try new things and new flavors. I can really figure out how to prepare something that I have doubts about in a way that is more accessible to my own palate. “

Genius Patrathiranond, the CMO of the recipe app boss, agrees. Their opinion is that if you are afraid of new foods, make them yourself. The app has some ultra-easy recipes that can open the door to new, more intense flavors, like garlic cabbage ricotta pizza, a creamy white bean spinach quesadilla, and buttered chicken and pumpkin with jasmine rice. You can find other types of recipes all over the internet – and seeing the ingredients can help you make an informed decision about exactly what to try, which will reduce some of the anxiety.

With this approach, keep your own culinary mastery in mind. If a recipe is too complicated for your skill level, you might end up doing something gross or giving up altogether. Patrathiranond’s app lets you combine recipes and then calculate the exact steps you need to take to ensure that all of your dishes are ready and hot at the same time, so nothing gets cold or unsavory. McClain, meanwhile, suggests watching cooking shows to see how the pros do it. It “helps a ton,” he says.

“You can see delicious food being prepared and eaten, and that really helped me become more willing to try new things,” he said.

Visit new places

McClain recently moved to New York from California and began “dating someone who knows better about food” than him, he said. The contact with the diverse food in New York – a combination of different cultural and regional dishes – helped him to overcome his picky ways.

You don’t have to buy a one-way ticket across the country to open up to new flavors and meals. But when you travel, you should be open-minded and curious about your food. Always try the dishes and cuisines your destination is known for. On road trips, international adventures, family visits, or business trips, remember to keep an eye on your goal of expanding your taste buds. Traveling can be stressful, so having a fun side quest that compliments the real purpose of your trip is beneficial in several ways.

Closer to home, try new restaurants. Don’t stick with what you know just because you know. No matter where you live, we bet there is something delicious near you that you haven’t tried yet.

do not give up

You will definitely eat something you hate at some point, but better to know this food and avoid it in the future than not to try it at all. Don’t let a bad experience stop you looking for new foods that you will like.

“Give any new food, taste, or cuisine at least a few tries before you decide whether you like it or not,” said Patrathiranond. “Many ingredients taste very different when cooked differently. Maybe you don’t like cooked carrots, but then you discover that you love roasted carrots. “

McClain agrees: “Food can always be delicious, so I try to keep that in mind by trying new things. I will also try things out more than once. Everything deserves a second chance. “

Supreme Courtroom refuses to dam restrictive abortion regulation in Texas

People walk past the U.S. Supreme Court on the day the Washington court will issue orders and statements on June 1, 2021.

Erin Scott | Reuters

The Supreme Court declined to block a Texas law banning most abortions in a 5-4 ruling late Wednesday.

Chief Justice John Roberts and the three court-appointed Democrats, Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, disagreed.

The “Heartbeat” law went into effect in Texas on Wednesday after midnight. It bans most abortions as early as six weeks of gestation – when many women do not yet know they are pregnant – and enables private individuals to bring civil lawsuits against abortion providers.

Sotomayor called the decision “breathtaking” and said Texas law violated nearly 50 years of federal precedent.

“In a motion for blatantly unconstitutional law aimed at banning women from exercising their constitutional rights and evading judicial scrutiny, a majority of judges chose to stick their heads in the sand,” wrote she.

CNBC policy

Read more about CNBC’s political coverage:

On Monday, a group of abortion providers and advocates, including Planned Parenthood, filed an emergency motion to block implementation of the law. The petitioners said the law would set Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 case that enshrined the right of women to choose an abortion.

In response, a group of Texas officials, including Attorney General Ken Paxton, urged the Supreme Court to reject their opponents’ offer to thwart the law, calling the request “bold”.

“Unparalleled” enforcement system

SB 8 was enacted in May by Republican Governor Greg Abbott. It prohibits doctors from performing or having abortions after they “detect a fetal heartbeat in the unborn child” except in medical emergencies.

Roberts wrote that the law was “not only unusual but unprecedented” in that it delegated enforcement to the public rather than state officials.

“The desired consequence seems to be to relieve the state of responsibility for the implementation and enforcement of the regulatory regime,” he wrote.

The new law gives individuals the power to bring civil actions against abortion providers or anyone who “assists or aids” the procedures after a heartbeat is detected. These lawsuits can earn a minimum of $ 10,000 in “legal damages” per abortion.

Sotomayor said, “Indeed, the Texas legislature has represented the citizens of the state as bounty hunters, offering them cash prizes for civilly prosecuting their neighbors’ medical practices.”

Brad Pitt challenges Angelina Jolie’s custody battle

0

The back and forth continues in Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s heated custody case.

Pitt scored a victory in May when he was provisionally granted joint custody of their five underage children. However, the order came from Richter John Ouderkirkwho directed the couple’s wedding seven years ago.

This caused Jolie to reject the judge’s verdict. In July, a California appeals court approved her motion to disqualify the judge. According to her legal team, Ouderkirk has failed to “disclose several professional, business and financial relationships with Pitt’s attorneys and their law firms that have continued throughout the matter.”

As such, Jolie retained full-time custody of their children while Pitt retained visiting rights.

The Moneyball actor is now on trial by petitioning the California Supreme Court to review the case that E! News from September 1st.

“The Court of Appeals has effectively turned the constitutionally authorized temporary judge system in California on its head, creating widespread confusion, uncertainty and instability for judges, litigants, and the California judicial system as a whole,” it said.

Why your lease is usually greater than a mortgage fee

Renters who are frustrated with hot housing headlines that seem like this is their last chance to buy a property are backed by reports that Rent payments currently exceed the average monthly mortgage payments. But comparing the cost of owning and renting on a monthly basis is not that straightforward as there are a number of hidden costs associated with owning a home. In fact, there are benefits to sticking to renting even when home prices are skyrocketing.

Why is the rent higher than the mortgage cost?

Commentators on this Reddit thread To put it best, “Your rent is the highest you will ever pay a month. While your mortgage is the lowest you’ll ever pay each month. ”Why should that be? Well, homeowners need to cover the cost of the expenses that a tenant does not have to pay, at least not directly:

  • Property taxes: $ 2,471 per year, on average (and in some areas much more)
  • Monthly HOA fees: $ 250 per month, on average
  • Repairs and maintenance: $ 170 per month, on average
  • Homeowner Insurance: $ 80 per month, on average
  • Electricity bills: $ 200 per month, on average
  • Private mortgage insurance: $ 160 per month, on average
  • Lender obligation flood insurance: $ 61 per month, on average

Other possible fees could include: garbage collection, water and sewer service, pest control, tree pruning, facility maintenance, and earthquake insurance. These costs are of course still borne by the landlords, but many of them are baked into the rental costs.

Of course, as any weary renter knows, you can be stuck with a low-paying or otherwise cheap landlord who saves on repairs and pest control. Nonetheless, the cost is real and is on top of what an owner pays in mortgage payments (see for a more detailed breakdown this Lifehacker post).

Even so, pity is not required – homes are also assets that tend to increase in value, often over 10% annually, therefore, given the ongoing cost of owning them, they are quite valuable.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Why renting isn’t that bad after all

Cost security and flexibility are underestimated aspects of renting. When you rent, you know exactly how much you will be spending monthly on housing. Unlike a homeowner, you don’t have to worry about a 30 year mortgage obligation, and you don’t have to pay surprising expenses like a new HVAC or boiler for a few thousand a pop – at least not directly. The other benefit of renting is that if you change jobs, expand your family, or find better, cheaper accommodation, it is much easier to move than owning a home. Of course, that doesn’t make renting cheaper, but it has its advantages.

This is how you can tell if your rent is too high

Research and compare rental rates for similar properties in the neighborhood you plan to live in and determine the average monthly rate for an apartment, the number of bedrooms, and the amenities you are looking for. So many landlords determine their own prices, so use your research as leverage to get around negotiate a lower monthly rent. If you don’t like the offer, you at least have the flexibility to look elsewhere.

Also worth mentioning here: If you are in arrears with your rental payments due to the pandemic, consider your rental support options as described in this Lifehacker post.

WHO urges world leaders to withhold booster protection of Covid vaccines till September

World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus attends a press conference held by the Geneva Association of United Nations Correspondents (ACANU) amid COVID-19 on July 3, 2020 at WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland – Outbreak is organized.

The World Health Organization again called on world leaders to postpone the administration of Covid-19 boosters for at least another month to allow poorer nations to vaccinate more of their population with first doses.

More than 5 billion Covid vaccine syringes have been given worldwide, 75% of which were given in just 10 countries, according to the WHO.

“That is why I have called for a moratorium on boosters, at least until the end of this month, so that the countries that are furthest behind can catch up,” said WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a briefing on Wednesday.

The director of the global health agency said that some high-income countries have adult vaccination rates of 50%, while low-income countries, including many in Africa, still have adult vaccination rates of less than 2%. The U.S. has fully vaccinated more than 52% of its population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Extra doses may be required for people with compromised immune systems or immunity drops, “but right now we don’t want widespread use of boosters in healthy people who are fully vaccinated,” Tedros said.

Nearly 1 million Covid-19 vaccine booster shots have been given in the U.S. since health officials approved additional shots of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines to people with compromised immune systems on Aug. 12, according to the CDC.

President Joe Biden said the US plans to distribute Covid booster vaccinations widely starting the week of September 20, pending approval from the Food and Drug Administration and CDC scientists.
