Check your new decor with a digital renovation app

You dream of a couch, but you have no idea how your vague idea of a couch actually works in your living space. Or you go to a furniture store with the measurements in hand to purchase a table, but walk away unsure whether the table will look wrong, even if it technically fits into your dining room.

But what if you could take all that stress off with one app? Ikea is trying to provide the solution with its latest addition to the range of extremely practical AR tools it calls Ikea Studio. The app was developed in collaboration with the Danish interior design laboratory Space10 and aims to use the LiDAR sensors of an iPhone to understand your living space and determine whether your favorite Ikea ottoman or oversized lamp fits into your living room.

It’s currently in beta, downloadable via TestFlight, unfortunately only available under iOS. If you can install it anyway, it will probably be worth trying out before your next trip to the big yellow and blue box. Everything to make the trip a little less an odyssey (in the classic sense).

How to use Ikea Studio

The gist is pretty simple: the app captures a floor plan of a room you want to redecorate and then allows you to read a limited catalog of Ikea offerings that match the dimensions of your space. Conveniently, your existing furniture will be replaced with white boxes that are easily overwritten by the images of the Ikea furniture you have chosen. The scanning system takes into account the presence of windows and doors and allows you to change the color of a wall. If you want to test out some of the more redundant features of augmented reality, the app also lets you turn digital lights on and off in case you have a limited imagination and want to see what your suggested quarters might look like more or less easily.

G / O Media can receive a commission

More useful is that you can see what your walls will look like adorned with shelves, or what they might look like if painted a gorgeous shade of seaweed green:

When you’ve explored the possibilities, you can export a 3D or 2D rendering of your floor plan. Hopefully the process will make the tedious chore of outfitting your home a little less, provided you are happy with finding Ikea for all of your furnishing needs. (If not, read on.)

A precursor to Apple Glass?

There just has to be a proprietary business model, right? In an interview with Wired In the UK, Tommy Campbell, head of digital design at Space10, suggested that the introduction of Apple’s AR glasses will provide a broader framework for Ikea’s ambitions in the digital furniture space.

He told the magazine:

We therefore made a very conscious decision to paint the vision of Studio as a vision that can exist both on the smartphone and in a glasses-like environment. We also used a new renderer reality kit from Apple that allows us to achieve a level of detail for these models that has not been seen before in IKEA’s AR portfolio.

Apple Glass or not, the beta iPhone app offers an exciting new way to explore your decorating options without pulling out a tape measure.

Other apps do the same

Ikea’s app may look like the best version of its kind right now, but that doesn’t negate the previous ones. If you don’t have an iPhone or don’t want to commit to becoming an Ikea brand warrior, there are a few other apps out there that do the same (or similar).

  • Magicplan Also creates a floor plan of your environment and can be integrated into Amazon, expanding the scope of your ordering and visualization options. It’s available for iOS and Android.
  • Houzz is a little different in that it has photos that you can browse to find a creative spark, but you can also snap a photo of your surroundings to see what some new outfits in your digs want. It is also available on iOS and Android.
  • Dulux Visualizer reminds us how important color can be. The paint company has its own app that you can use to upload a photo to see which color goes best with your walls. Available for iOS and Android.
  • Oh yes, and then there is something else Wegmesse. The online furniture retailer has an app that is eerily similar to Ikea’s in that you can see how the exclusive deals fit into your home. It’s on Android and iOS.

Inventory futures fall in three by main averages after the primary constructive session

US stock index futures fell in overnight trading on Wednesday, adding to the session’s key averages.

Futures contracts linked to the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 53 points. S&P 500 futures were down 0.23% while Nasdaq 100 futures were down 0.24%.

Shares rose during regular trading hours on Wednesday and saw a two-day streak of bad luck as companies tied to reopening the economy showed the way up. The Dow was up 316 points, or 0.93%, while the S&P 500 was up 0.93%. At 1.19%, the Nasdaq Composite was the relative outperformance of the major indices.

Small caps were a particular strength point during the session. The Russell 2000 finished the day 2.35% higher than its best day since March 1st.

The Dow and S&P 500 are less than 1% off regaining their record highs last Friday amid ongoing optimism about the pace of the economic recovery.

“Stocks continue to shoot almost all cylinders and remain in a strong position as the bull stretches across the cyclical, secular and increasingly defensive [sector] with an economy on the offensive, “stated strategists at Evercore ISI.” The sum of that coupled with soaring metals and materials, a Milquetoast dollar and a 10-year rate of 1.55% provides the technical definition of “goldilocks” as we consolidate the strong rally on key support, “the company said .

A busy week of winning season continues on Thursday. A large number of companies will publish quarterly results.

AT&T, DR Horton, Southwest, American Airlines, Union Pacific and Biogen are among the names on deck before the opening bell. Intel, Snap, Mattel, Boston Beer and Seagate Technology will report back after the market closes.

The economic data released on Thursday also gives investors a glimpse of the ongoing economic recovery. Initial jobless claims will be released at 8:30 a.m. CET, with economists expecting a pressure of 603,000 according to Dow Jones estimates. Existing home sales data will be published at 10 a.m. CET.

“Significant stimuli, more of which are coming from the Biden government, have boosted economic forecasts and could raise overall EPS expectations from the consensus forecast of US $ 174 to US $ 180 to US $ 185,” said Tobias Levkovich of Citi recently in a message. “We believe stocks reflect a little closer to $ 190, which suggests that a lot is already priced in and that a shortfall could result in a significant decline,” he added.

“You can receive this payment when you receive the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) or submit a unique tax identification number (ITIN),” said the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB).

“You have to include your ITIN in your tax return,” advises the FTB.

“Your ITIN cannot be pending. Wait until you have your ITIN to file your tax return. You are eligible for the GSS [Golden State Stimulus] if you are filing on or before October 15th. “

To qualify for CalEITC, residents must have taxable income of up to $ 30,000, Newsweek reports, and have earned $ 75,000 or less.

You can’t use “married / RDP” [Registered Domestic Partner] submit separately “if married.

Residents must also have filed their taxes for 2020.

If you did this between January 1st and March 1st, the FTB processed your return and you will receive your stimulus payment after April 15th.

TAX RETURN PROCESSED

The FTB warns that an Eligible Resident will not receive their payment until their taxes have been filed.

New batches of payments are processed twice a month.

According to Newsweek, the first information on eligible residents was sent to FTB on April 15, including those who had filed taxes by March 1.

Residents who filed taxes between March 2 and April 23 should expect to receive the $ 600 stimulus payment in May.

The FTB states that Californians should allow two weeks for direct deposits and four to six weeks for checks in the mail.

For those who haven’t filed taxes by April 23rd, they should allow their return to be processed first.

After that you should have 45 days for the stimulus payments to be processed and issued by FTB.

CALIFORNIA STIMULUS WEBSITE

California has a wait times website that gives you an idea of how long it will take the FTB to process tax returns.

Individuals with questions about their stimulus reviews can call the board or speak to a representative on their website.

The state’s plan replaces the third stimulus package by one month.

The California Policy Lab found that more than 2 million low-income citizens are missing out on more than $ 5.7 billion in potential stimulus payments.

The stimulus plan is primarily aimed at people who have already completed a financial assistance package, particularly those who have been hardest hit financially by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Demand for a fourth and even a fifth federal stimulus package rises as Democrats claim more funds are needed to help families in financial trouble.

So check out Reddit’s clubhouse-style “Talks” function early on

The clubhouse has got to be into something as every other social media platform is launching its own version of their live voice chats with audio only. Twitter, Discord, Facebook, LinkedIn, Spotify, and Telegram have similar features in development, but the latest company to join the trend is Reddit with its newly announced Reddit Talks.

Reddit Talks allows subreddits to host live audio discussions that are open to all members of the community. During the early testing phase, only the moderators of a subreddit can host talk, but anyone on Android or iOS can overhear. Hosts can assign voice rights to other listeners during a talk, and “trusted community members” can host their own conversations in the future.

By doing official announcement threadAccording to Reddit, the talk feature is for “any community it should be used for,” citing “Q&A, AMAs, lectures, sports radio-style discussions, community feedback sessions, or just a place to hang out” as Suggestions for how to use conversations.

We still have to see how to start a talk, but we can see how the user interface works using the in-app screenshots posted by Reddit.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Like most other clubhouse-style chat rooms, Reddit Talks lists all of the users in the room based on their roles. Speakers and moderators are listed at the top of the window, followed by all participating users. Hosts can tap a user to invite them to speak. There are also options to mute, remove and block users.

The Talks interface is customizable and features unique avatars, reaction emojis and a choice of background colors. Listeners can tap the hand icon to “raise their hand” and ask for permission to speak. If you’re invited to speak, you’ll see a notification, along with the option to accept or decline.

Conversations will undoubtedly change Reddit, but the feature will be enabled once it’s live, so communities that don’t want to allow conversations can ignore it. Subreddit moderators who want to test out Talks early on can Join the waiting list here. Reddit will collect feedback from participating communities after the initial tests. We therefore assume that the features will change at the time of publication.

Sorry, cardio would not depend as leg day

Cardio is important to our health in many ways, and at least that is what we should all strive for Minimum requirement of 75 to 150 minutes per week. If you enjoy running, biking, or hiking and do it more often, so much the better.

But we all need strength training too. Both is importantSo if you’re primarily a lifter, cardio should be a few times a week. and if all you want to do is run you should still hit the weights.

What if I run a lot?

This is where the dilemma comes in: if you want to spend more time on the trails and less time in the gym, can you use an exercise regimen that includes days for the upper and lower body and skip the lower body stuff entirely? Because when running (or cycling or hiking) the legs are used.

Unfortunately, not. To make your legs stronger, you need to adequately challenge them heavy weights or other suitable exercises to build strength. Running is pretty much the opposite of that: you take thousands of steps, but each one is just a small amount of work. To make matters worse, the better at running you are, the more efficient you are and the less work each of these steps really is.

How do cyclists get those big legs?

Well, often it is because they are training strength in addition to all of their miles on the bike. They also often train strength-specifically with their bikes as resistance, which could probably replace the leg day in part. But you or I chugging up a few hills on a ride are not the same type of workout.

So, yes, you have to do a leg day if you want to be a healthy, well-rounded athlete. But here’s the good news: taking the time to exercise your legs will make you faster, stronger, and possibly even less prone to injury on your runs or rides.

So instead of an upper / lower split, consider full body weight training done twice a week. Or check out the rest of the Our tips for combining running and strength trainingthat you can adapt to any type of cardio that is your favorite.

UiPath Up 17% on NYSE Debut After One among Finest Software program IPOs Ever

UiPath rose 17% in the company’s IPO on Wednesday after the software company and its investors grossed $ 1.34 billion in the company’s IPO. The shares opened at $ 65.50.

The company, whose software helps companies automate repetitive tasks, sold shares Tuesday night for $ 56 each, above its expected price range of $ 52 to $ 54. At the opening price, UiPath had a market value of $ 34 billion.

If underwriters buy their allotted shares, UiPath’s offering will be the third largest ever for a US software company, behind only cloud database provider Snowflake, which raised $ 3.9 billion in September, and Qualtrics , which grossed $ 1.78 billion in January after spinning off SAFT. UiPath comes at a time of rapid growth as companies from healthcare to energy producers are looking for ways to automate the operations of their finance, human resources, and legal departments.

Revenue increased 81% to $ 607.6 million last year, and the company’s loss decreased from $ 519.9 million in 2019 to $ 92.4 million. UiPath’s 89% gross margin is among the highest in software.

As UiPath has joined a long list of high-growth cloud software companies for the past three years, it’s debut amid shifting investor sentiment. After more than doubling in value last year, the WisdomTree Cloud Computing Fund, which consists of 58 publicly traded cloud software providers, has fallen 6.7% this year, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at Tuesday’s close 11% has increased.

One of UiPath’s greatest strengths is its ability to retain customers and encourage them to increase their spending over time. Last fiscal year, UiPath reported a net revenue tie of 145%, meaning the average existing customer increased spending 45% year over year.

UiPath, ranked 50th on CNBC’s 2020 Disruptor 50 list. was founded in Romania in 2005 by Daniel Dines, a former Microsoft engineer. Dines moved UiPath to the United States about a decade later and set up a headquarters in New York. Around a quarter of the 2,863 full-time employees work in Bucharest, Romania.

The stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “PATH”. Dines controls 88% of the voting stock and is the largest stakeholder with over 110 million shares valued at $ 6.2 billion based on the IPO price including some shares sold on offer.

The FDA finds poor circumstances on the Baltimore facility that ruined the J&J cans

The FDA finds poor circumstances on the Baltimore facility that ruined the J&J cans

The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday a facility in Baltimore that ruined millions of Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine doses was unsanitary and unsuitable for making the shots.

The FDA asked Emergent BioSolutions, which operates the facility, to temporarily suspend production of materials for Covid-19 vaccines earlier this month as the U.S. agency initiated an inspection.

“The company has not adequately trained personnel involved in manufacturing operations, quality control sampling, weighing and dispensing, and engineering operations to prevent drug cross-contamination,” FDA investigators wrote in the report.

The eight-day inspection earlier this month revealed a number of alarming quality issues throughout the facility.

In a 13-page report, the inspectors wrote that the facility used to manufacture the vaccine “was not kept in a clean and sanitary condition” and “was not of the appropriate size, design and location for cleaning, maintenance and to facilitate proper operation. “”

FDA inspectors said paint was peeling in multiple places and walls were damaged, which could affect the facility’s “ability to adequately clean and disinfect.” They also found that when handling waste or materials used to make vaccines, employees did not follow standard operating procedures to ensure they were not contaminated.

The facility has not been approved by the FDA to manufacture or distribute Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine, and none of the doses manufactured at this facility have been marketed for use in the United States. Emergent has agreed to cease production of materials until the issues identified by the FDA are resolved, the agency said.

In a statement, J&J said it had “stepped up its oversight of drug manufacturing at the Emergent BioSolutions Bayview facility, including additional controls and personnel, to ensure that the quality standards of our company and the US Food & Drug Administration ( FDA) are complied with. “”

“Johnson & Johnson will exercise its regulatory authority to ensure that all FDA observations are promptly and fully considered,” it said.

Emergent said it is determined to work with the FDA and J&J to resolve the issues.

“While we are never satisfied with defects in our production facilities or processes, these can be corrected and we will take quick action to correct them,” it said in a statement.

Robert Califf, former FDA commissioner under the Obama administration, said that while the problems at the Baltimore plant appear “troubling”, manufacturing issues are emerging and one reason FDA oversight is so important.

“Supply chain and manufacturing are really complicated issues, but that’s why you need an FDA and inspections, and it’s the shared responsibility of the FDA and the companies themselves,” he told CNBC in a telephone interview.

Earlier this month, the Biden administration hired J&J to run the Baltimore facility after US officials learned that Emergent, a contract manufacturer that made vaccines for J&J and AstraZeneca, mixed the ingredients for the two shots would have. Officials also stopped production of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The interruption in production of new materials is the most recent setback for J & J. Last week, the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised states to temporarily discontinue use of J & J’s vaccine “out of caution” after six Women had developed a rare but potentially life-threatening bleeding disorder in which one person was dead and one was in critical condition. A key CDC panel is due to meet on Friday to make a recommendation on how to use the vaccine.

The FDA said Wednesday that its actions at the Baltimore facility had nothing to do with the ongoing evaluation of the coagulation cases.

It is time to change to a dummy e mail handle on Fb

0
It is time to change to a dummy e mail handle on Fb

Regardless of whether the gap lasts for a day, a month or forever, a new program “Facebook Email Search” shows again why you might not want to use your regular e-mail address for the sprawling social media site – or why really. As a researcher foundIt’s pathetically easy to search through a large list of email addresses and link them to real Facebook accounts.

The scope of the tool is pretty significant – up to five million email addresses a day if it’s really on the rise – and it can link Facebook accounts to those emails regardless of the account owner’s security settings. You may have made your Facebook profile as private as possible, but that doesn’t stop the tool from doing its magic.

While this type of vulnerability does not pose a direct threat to your security as no one can use the existence of your email address as a way to break into your Facebook account, this is still another data point that you probably don’t want to use not be tied up in a huge database. This information could be used to dox or fish you at a later date, or who knows what else – attackers can get a lot more creative with a wealth of data about you, your related accounts, and some leaked passwords.

Since Facebook is a juicy target for attacks and Data breachesand chances are that the majority of users of the service are unlikely to be ready to part with it for good. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to use fake data about yourself wherever possible. You should have at least one email address on Facebook that you don’t use with any other service (and ideally a separate phone number, also).

Changing this data on Facebook is easy: all you have to do is go to your elementary school Facebook settings page to change your email address, or “contact” as Facebook calls it. Add a new one, make it the primary, and delete the old one – it’s that simple. You’re about to perform a similar process to switch to a new phone number. All in all, the switchover shouldn’t take more than ten minutes. That includes the time you spend digging through your inbox or text messages waiting for Facebook to send you new confirmations.

G / O Media can receive a commission

In a perfect world, you would use a unique email address (and phone number, if applicable) for all of your social services. The former is pretty easy to set up and manage, especially if you have a password manager do all the heavy lifting. The latter is a lot harder to deal with, and it’s something you can probably avoid if you stop giving your phone number to the services you use. The exception, of course, is when a service only offers two-factor authentication. It is better to enable this than to forego it. However, you can avoid this entirely if you can set up with a service too conventional two-factor authentication with a third party app.

If this all sounds like a lot to remember, it shouldn’t be. Just keep that one word in mind when you’re setting up a new service or reviewing the information you’ve already shared with a service: obfuscation. If a service doesn’t need to know your actual information in order to give you access, you don’t have to cough it up. The more you can hide your critical information like your name, date of birth, email address, phone number, and real address, the better off poking around with smart people.
