Put simply, “I feel like it’s a win-win situation.”
Although Sunisa will continue to show off her formidable skills as an Auburn University athlete, she affirms that she hopes to restart and recharge first.
“At the moment, quiet is the main focus because I was a bit beaten at the Olympics,” she revealed. “When I came here, I was hoping to give my body some rest, and also mentally, because that demands a lot from me.”
She continued: “I just want to focus on myself and prepare for the season. I have a really good team behind me. I’m looking forward to everything that comes in the future.”
If anything, Sunisa looks forward to being a regular college student the most.
“Lots of people here know me. I’ve only just got here, so of course people will be excited,” she said of her newfound fame. “As soon as it wears off, I feel like it will get a little better and I’ll be able to do things and go anywhere without being called. I am really happy to be here. “
She concluded, “I just wanted to have fun. Elite gymnastics was so tough and there is never time to have fun or hang out with your friends. When I come here, I can be freer and I’m just happy to be part of a team. “
On Friday August 13th, Sunisa proved how excited she is about this new chapter. The Olympian shared an Instagram photo proudly rocking an Auburn t-shirt while posing in front of a campus building. She titled her contribution “War Eagle”.
