Today is Global running day, a global event created to celebrate running and move more people. This year all official events will take place virtually. Here is our overview of the different ways to participate. Some are for today only and others allow you to enter anytime this week.
The NYRR Virtual Global Running Day 1M
The main event is a free virtual race hosted by the New York Road Runners Club and Strava. to register on the website and take part in the event by logging a distance of one mile in the app, putting it on public and marking it as a race. You must run the mile between June 1 and June 6, 2021 in order for it to be “counted”.
The World River Run
From June 2nd to 5th (World Environment Day) you can dedicate your run to a river. Log in to the website and you will receive a virtual start number and a graduation certificate. The idea is to post online about both your run and your river to “celebrate the beauty and value of our rivers”.

The Global Running Day 5K with Meb Keflezighi
This virtual race aims to be as close as possible to a live event with people running all over the world. It takes place at a specific time – 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET (they note EST on the website, but daylight saving time applies, that should be EDT for sure). Log in to the website and you can access an audio livestream with marathon legend Meb Keflezighi and podcaster Ali Feller while you’re running, accessible through the Charge app.
The Lululemon Global Running Day Challenge
Do you want something that feels a little less like a race? Lululemon sponsors a Strava Challenge where all you need to do is log a run, walk, or wheelchair activity that lasts at least 10 minutes. Sign up for it here.
Receive a discount on a future race
If you have a specific race in mind that you would like to run in the future, today is a good time to see if there is a flash sale going on. The Rock N Roll series offers discounts of up to $ 35 on race entriesbut sales only last until midnight Pacific Time tonight.
