Did you know your PS5 controller has a microphone that is on by default every time you turn on your console? The microphone is very useful when playing online multiplayer games so you can talk to your friends even if you don’t have a headset with a microphone. However, if you are mindful of your privacy and are wary of having another device that can record your words, you should mute the microphone.
How to mute the microphone using the PS5 controller
The easiest way to mute the microphone is to press the button Microphone button on the PS5 DualSense controller. This button is between the PS button and the Microphone off icon on the controller. As soon as you press this button, a yellow LED will appear, which means that the microphone is muted.

The problem with this method is that you have to do it manually every time the PS5 turns on. However, there is a way to mute the DualSense controller’s microphone by default.

Here’s how to mute the microphone on the PS5 controller by default
To ensure that the controller’s microphone does not activate every time you turn on your PS5, you can change your settings right on the console. Turn on your PS5 and access it after loading the home screen. to settings by pressing the up arrow on the D-pad on your controller and pressing the right arrow until you reach that settingslocated in the upper right corner of the PS5 home page (next to the search icon).

Navigate to in your settings Sound> microphone and open Input device. Choose here Microphone on the controller.

When that’s done, go back to PS5 Microphone settings Page and choose Microphone status at login. Below if you choose Mute, the controller microphone will be muted when you start your PS5.

And with that, you no longer have to worry about broadcasting your voice during an online gaming session unless you want it to happen.
