Have you ever wondered how your and your spouse’s wages compare to what your co-workers take home each year? Well, according to a new report from finance website GOBankingRates, the median annual household income in the United States is $ 88,607. And while this number is a good benchmark, income varies quite a bit depending on where you live. For example, the difference in average household income between the state where people in the US make the most money and the state where they make the least is almost $ 52,000. So, if you really want to get a clearer idea of how the money you bring home compares to your neighbors’ income, your best bet is to look at the state-level data.
To determine the average annual household income in each state, the experts at GOBankingRates conducted research using five-year estimates from the US Census Bureau’s 2019 American Community Survey. Read on to find out how much money the people in your state earn on average in our ranking, counting down from the lowest to the highest annual household income.
