A 19-year-old cannot believe that her 32-year-old brother is claiming part of her inheritance.
She explained the situation on Reddit’s “Am I the A ******” forum. Her parents died when she was young. You left a large sum of money to both siblings. She was raised by her grandparents; Meanwhile, her brother took the money and broke off contact. Now that she has just turned 18 and has access to her inheritance, her brother shows up and demands money.
“Me (19F) and my brother (32M) were orphaned 10 years ago due to an accident our parents were involved in,” read the Reddit poster. “You left a considerable sum of money to each of us, and our parents’ home should be mine. They stipulated that when we were 18 we would have access to our will. Since my brother was old enough, he took his money and broke off contact with me. I’ve lived with my grandparents since then, but I finally got my share last year. I decided to move into the house and use the money to finance my studies. I’m in the first year of medicine and it’s very expensive. “
Her brother, who has a wife and three children, recently contacted her asking for her share of the inheritance.
“My brother spent his inheritance money on a house, wedding, cars and expensive things that you don’t really need to live,” she said. “My sister-in-law is a home housewife, so he was the breadwinner. My brother recently lost his job, so now his family is in trouble and they need a place to stay. He contacted me and asked to meet. Long story short, they said that since they were going through difficult times, they expected me to hand over my house to them and give them a share of my inheritance. I was pissed off because we haven’t talked or visited much since the accident and they just asked me to pay for it. I told them I wouldn’t because I already have a plan for the money and I live in the house. They said I can move back to my grandparents and have berated myself for selfishness. “
The story goes on
Reddit users thought they had every right to decline his request.
“Break off contact and if he tries again to get in touch, get an injunction,” someone wrote.
“The justified audacity of asking him to cut off his little sister as a child to save him is ridiculous,” commented another.
“It’s your money and you can do whatever you want with it,” added one person.
