The disgraced film producer, 69, was sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2020 after a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting a former production assistant. Mimi Haleyi, in 2006 and rape actress Jessica Mann in the third degree in 2013.
On his appeal, he is denied the constitutional right to get a fair trial with an impartial jury. It contains seven items and moves both convictions to be set aside and the third-degree rape charge to be dismissed.
The document alleges that the court refused to dismiss a jury “who wrote an autobiographical book about the predators of older men against younger women and lied about the book’s contents”.
Weinstein’s attorneys – Aidala, Bertuna & Kamins – state on appeal that they filed a denied motion to dismiss the jury as “grossly unqualified” after allegedly lying to the court about admitting a “mirrored plot” book review “the subjects of the process.
