Some of the most popular vacations during the pandemic were leisurely cabin stays in the wilderness. These rural-style vacations are popular because of their relative safety compared to other vacation options. Guests can distance themselves socially while taking advantage of outdoor activities like hiking, campfires, swimming, and more. Digital marketing website Build up reported travel site HomeAway saw a 55% growth in barn bookings and 30% in tree house bookings in 2020 – but a tiny cabin stay is very different from a lake house.
We helped you last fall Plan a cabin vacation, but how much would an outdoor getaway really cost you? Here is some information to help you budget your next cabin or camping vacation.
Choose the type of stay for your budget
Depending on the type of rustic vacation you’re looking for, costs can vary. As you get closer to camping, that cost can be quite cheap, but tiny cabins can cost as much as a hotel, and glamping can cost you the price of a luxury stay.

Campgrounds and State Park Cabins
If you’re looking for barebones camping or a cabin-style stay that leaves you vulnerable to the elements, you can be sure that a trip will cost you anywhere $ 36 a night to $ 90 a nightHowever, you also need to budget for toiletries, linens, utensils, and sometimes charges for gas or propane hookups. For example a small cabin or Dorm At Golden Gate Canyon State Park it costs you CO $ 90 a night with a minimum of two nights. These cabins have electricity and a bathroom, but do not include other items such as linens, utensils, and cooking utensils.
Small cabins
For a moderately heavy experience – one with all the comforts of indoor cooking and a bed with linens – expect $ 119 to $ 149 a night. You can find cabins that are designed like Hobbit houses or medium sized cabins for a bit more traditional feel.
Find a tiny hut Airbnb or Escape They can offer a glamping-style stay that is more like a hotel than a barebones cabin. Sheets, toiletries, and some kitchen utensils are usually included. You still need to bring your own food or sign up for grocery delivery with the host, but these cabins can be tasted anywhere $ 100 a night to $ 240 a night.
Tiny houses are an innovative way of living minimally without harming the environment, and Getaway offers small, secluded cabin rentals outside of many major cities. However, prices vary depending on location and time of year – for example, after searching Getaways in Atlanta I found prices at $ 119 on weekdays and $ 149 for the weekend, but a Short break in Washington DC was considerably more expensive, with a minimum of $ 169 per night on weekdays and a maximum of $ 229 in June.
You don’t have to budget for toilet paper or your own bedding, but you want to budget the budget based on your location. Getaway is only available in select locations, so options are limited.
Glamping
If you’re looking for a world-class glamping trip with sleek, modern amenities – maybe even a hot tub or pool – this can cost a wide range: between $ 260 and $ 770 a night.
You can rent this for more amenities at campsites like Golden Gate Canyon State Park Harmsen Ranch guest house for $ 270 per night versus the normal $ 90 per night for an average barebone cabin. The guest house has a fully equipped kitchen, several bathrooms and can accommodate eight people in four double beds. At the top, the Glamping.com website shows stays in Wyoming $ 800 a night. The more comfort, the higher the cost.
Decide on the best locale for your budget
Some places are in high demand for rustic stays and their prices will match accordingly. For example, you can expect anything on the water to cost you more than a comparable cabin in a remote forest. At Redfish Lake in Idaho, for example, the designated one Lake Cabin costs $ 559- $ 767 per night while other cabins is further back in the trees costs $ 259- $ 308.
For the cheapest vacation in the wild, reserve a campsite or rustic cabin in your local state park. If you’re looking for luxury amenities and prime locations (but still in nature), go on a budget for top-notch hotel-like prices. Everything in between, you can get a tiny cabin or Airbnb for that romantic getaway for a cheaper price.
