After a year of people demonstrating in numbers not seen since the 1960s, Lil baby He brought his appearance as best rap song nominee “The Bigger Picture” on the streets of LA and paid tribute to the black men and women killed by the police with a request from the activist Tamika Mallorywho didn’t crush any words.

“President BidenWe demand justice, justice, politics and everything else that includes freedom, “she said urgently. Protesters held signs that read” ENOUGH “and” No more black life “behind them.

Royal Quiz Time: What is (Probably) the Best Kept Secret in the Royal Family?

Is it whether the long-standing, but unfounded, rumors that Prince Philip’s Zip worked out pretty well at a young age are believable?

Is it just quite as personable or not how personable the family was to Hitler in the 1930s? Footage, captured in 2015, shows Prince Edward, the future Edward VIII, teaching the Nazi salute to The Queen Mother, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret.

Or is it why the Queen mysteriously intervened at the eleventh hour to prevent Diana, former butler of Princess of Wales, Paul Burrell, from standing on trial in 2002?

No (Well, at least in my opinion.)

RELATED: Prince Harry went nowhere to turn around

Rather, I’d bet it’s the true extent of the House of Windsor’s wealth.

Because no soul outside of the queen’s family has any real understanding of the full breadth of the clan’s personal holdings and how much money they have slipped away. (Your family fortune, and not the places, art, and priceless jewelry owned by the Crown.)

This week, the question of the royal house’s finances was brought back into the unpleasant spotlight with the kind permission of the company’s reluctant former employees, Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

It was a seismic, dizzying seven days in which they took a metaphorical sledgehammer into the mystique of the entire royal game and brought charges of shocking racism and cruelty within the palace walls. Questions raised included how the family supports different members.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey, Harry revealed that he and Meghan had resigned as working members of the royal house last January: “My family literally cut me off financially.”

(Before the Megxit, Prince Charles had supported the couple with around $ 4.49 million a year, according to recent reports from the Duchy of Cornwall.)

RELATED: Huge Misjudgment in the Queen’s Testimony

He later added, “The main concern when we were in Canada was in a different house and then I was told on short notice that the security was going to be removed.”

According to Harry, it was the money Diana, Princess of Wales, had left him to save the day financially.

“I have what my mother left me and we couldn’t have done it without that. I think she saw it coming, ”he said.

(This logic is a little shaky when you consider that Diana probably left William the same amount. She, too, foresaw that he would need her money to pay school fees and his wife in a never-ending series of pro-Asian floral dresses to keep?)

The overall picture that was cast of Harry was of the couple (and their young son Archie) who were essentially cast off, suddenly severed from the royal teat, and left with nothing but Diana’s money, her wits, her connections to it Celebrities and their businesses.

RELATED: Bright Question Oprah Didn’t Ask

However, when the Windsor House is hit by a dire case of PTSID (Posttraumatic Sussex Interview Disorder), reports emerge suggesting that this money brawl has another side.

Did Charles punish his son in a fit of pique? Or was he tired of making a handful or crunchy preparations for his son and daughter-in-law?

Speaking to The Telegraph, a “well-placed source” said that “Charles, like any parent, is sick of Harry’s constant calls for more money.”

“He invested heavily in the wedding and renovation of Frogmore Cottage (the couple’s Windsor home), doing everything possible to make them feel like they were funded, but when they said they were going to upgrade canes, they pleaded even more, “said the source.

“If he were less inclined to take calls, it could be because he didn’t want to be treated like an ATM. I think a lot of parents will relate to it. “

(God I hope my mother isn’t reading this.)

Any imagination that when they landed in LA last March Harry and Meghan were on Struggle Street, two former HRHs channeling Blanche Dubois and relying on the kindness of strangers (go on, add one here Faints one when you feel like it) one seems a bit rich.

By the time the duo unpacked their meditation stools (I suspect) at the Beverly Hills mansion loaned to them by Hollywood titan Tyler Perry, reports suggest they had millions, if not tens of millions, by that point Dollars in their bank accounts.

When the Princess was tragically killed in Paris in 1997, she left behind £ 12,966,022 ($ 23.3 million), which was reduced to £ 8,502,330 ($ 15.3 million) after paying various death duties. According to The Mirror, “years of wise investments by royal advisors meant the fortune had grown to more than $ 36 million by the time it was returned to Harry and his brother William.”

The Times quoted a more conservative figure this week, reporting that Duke inherited an estimated $ 12.9 million from the late princess’ estate and that “his mother’s legacy may have grown significantly before he was eligible at the age of 30 to take control of it ”.

While a representative from Harry Forbes had previously confirmed that he had received no inheritance from his great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, who left a mysteriously acquired fortune of $ 180 million when she went to a large gin bar in the sky in 2002, this week the Times reported that she had actually left him $ 5.4 million.

According to author David McClure, author of Royal Legacy, an investigation into royal finances, it is also “very likely” that the Duke will also receive income from other undisclosed family businesses, reports TheTimes.

Elsewhere, a member of the Queen’s Privy Councilor, Norman Baker, reported in his 2019 investigation of the royal house: What are you doing? “Harry has at least $ 35.9 million in personal fortune.”

Meghan is now said to have entered royal life with $ 2.6 to 5.4 million, largely thanks to her role in suits.

Even leaving aside the money the Queen Mother left Harry or not, and the most conservative characters tossed around as they started their new shiny lives in the US, they had $ 15.5 million in their name.

Hardly a minor thing, is it?

In mid-June, a trust that shares a mailing address with the offices of Meghan’s longtime managing director bought the $ 19 million Montecito property where the family now lives. This happened more than two months before they announced their Netflix deal on the beginning of September.

All of which makes Harry’s outrage at the parent’s cash spill, which is just so much harder to swallow.

On top of that, a 36-year-old adult man who is outraged that his 70-year-old father turned off the money tap doesn’t have something unusual? Especially at a time when his new home, the United States, is in the midst of one of the biggest economic crises in a century?

Suddenly having to pay for your own private jets may have been a rude shock, but it hardly deserves any sympathy.

It would be unfair not to point out that one factor in his financial troubles was that the family suddenly had to make their own expensive safety precautions because of their state flight.

The fact that it doesn’t seem to have crossed their minds to either Harry or Meghan that UK taxpayers may not be thrilled to be paying the bill for an LA outpost is a bit of a mystery.

(With that in mind, here’s a brief introduction: The Royal Family is protected by members of Scotland Yard’s Royalty and Specialist Protection (RaSP), and therefore all decisions about their protection are made by the London Metropolitan Police and their chief, the Home Secretary.

Currently only working members of the royal family receive police protection, and a title does not entitle a Windsor to a bevy of specialists armed with weapons. For example, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are not protected by taxpayer sponsored bodyguards.)

Even so, as we now know, those die-hard Sussexes did well when it was time to defend themselves last year and sign a megawatt deal with Netflix that, according to some reports, is worth more than $ 130 million – Dollar has an estimated $ 54 million deal with Spotify.

What a difference a year makes. All of a sudden, Daddy’s $ 4.5 million allowance seems a little bit tricky …

Shares in Japanese tech giant Rakuten rose 20% on Monday, expanding profits after the company announced it would raise $ 2.2 billion to better compete with its US peers.

Rakuten said Friday it would sell an 8.3% stake in postal and banking giant Japan Post, which will be the largest shareholder outside of the founding Mikitani family. Chinese internet company Tencent will acquire a 3.6% stake, while US retailer Walmart will acquire a 0.9% stake.

Rakuten has over 70 companies ranging from e-commerce to cellular networks, video streaming to financial technology. Its market capitalization is around 1.79 trillion Japanese yen ($ 16.4 billion).

Hiroshi Mikitani, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Rakuten, told CNBC on Monday that his company “is growing very quickly even at this size and we need more capital to grow.”

He explained that Rakuten and Japan Post are jointly developing artificial intelligence skills to make deliveries more efficient, especially in rural areas. The two companies could also work together on fintech, Mikitani said.

Slump in China’s market

The collaboration with Tencent is another attempt by Rakuten to enter the Chinese market. Mikitani said his company had a failed partnership with Chinese internet giant Baidu in the past.

“I have to be very honest and China has been a very difficult market for us,” he told CNBC’s Squawk Box Asia.

“With a partnership with Tencent, we now have a channel to export Japanese products to the Chinese market and export Japanese content … also to the Chinese market,” he added.

Rakuten’s sales last year were 1.46 trillion yen ($ 13.35 billion) – an increase of 15.2% year over year. However, in 2020 there was an operating loss of 93.85 billion yen ($ 860.57 million), reversing the operating profit of 72.75 billion yen a year ago.

It is the childhood whining heard around the world: “This is not fair.” It is used in protest of a sibling being allowed to stay out with friends or have extra screen time, or in response to a classmate having extra time to do a job. They might be tempted to snap back that “life is not fair,” and while this is true, teaching them the difference between fairness and justice is more helpful in the long run. Because what is the same is not always fair, and what is fair is not always the same.

Adults can understand why, at times, a person’s needs or circumstances can outweigh the importance of ensuring that everyone is receiving exactly the same amount of help or following exactly the same rules. A teenager should be allowed to stay up later as a kindergarten teacher; it may not be the same, but it is fair. However, fairness and justice are abstract concepts for children. Hence, parents need to train a little (maybe even a lot) before they can fully understand it.

Here are some exercises you can try at home to better understand the difference.

No glasses for anyone

Some people get more support because they need it – and just because they need it doesn’t mean everyone should get it. Barbara Gruener offers this exercise for teachers Free Spirit Publishing Blog, and parents can have a similar conversation at home to illustrate the point:

Start with the eye-opening example of wearing prescription glasses. After asking students if fair equals (their typical answer is a resounding “Yes!”), Respectfully request that everyone with glasses remove them because it is not “fair” for some to have glasses while the rest of the class doesn’t. This will challenge their thinking about fair meaning, we are all the same.

G / O Media can receive a commission

A patch for everyone

Another classic tactic is that Pavement lesson This prompts everyone in the family to come up with a fake illness or injury. When everyone has chosen one, distribute a patch to each person to treat the injury – whether it’s a paper cut, a broken leg, or a bad cold.

Huh, that’s not fair.

Who can reach

Teacher Samantha Song writes for Better kids that she has her own favorite exercise that she uses in her classroom every year to bring home the difference between fairness and justice. She puts a few items on a tall shelf and then calls a larger and a smaller student to get the items. If the shorter student cannot reach out, ask the class to think about how to help them (dragging over a chair, getting help from a larger classmate, etc.). Song writes:

This leads to a discussion between fair and equal. The two volunteers cannot be treated equally because that is really not fair or even necessary. The older child already has one leg up! * Ba dum pum * It is obvious to the class that they don’t need a chair or someone to help them reach. However, the other child needs shelter in order to have the same chance of success.

Equality has to do with equality, just like in mathematics. An equal sign tells us that both sides of the equation are exactly the same (3 + 2 = 5). Fair is different. Fair means everyone gets what they need based on visible gaps in opportunity. And sometimes people have different needs because we are unique individuals.

You can do this at home by instructing a teenage or adult family member, as well as a younger, smaller child, to try to reach the bowls on the top shelf of the kitchen cabinet. You give them the same job, but you wrongly expect the child to reach the same heights as an adult.

Illustration for article titled Teach Kids the Difference Between

Talk about justice versus equality

After doing some basic exercises, you can talk about the difference between justice and equality. Although they feel like the same basic concept on the surface, it’s crucial to understand the difference. Social Change UK explains it well::

Although both promote fairness, equality does it by treating all people equally regardless of their needs, while justice does it by treating people differently according to their needs. However, this difference in treatment can be the key to achieving equality.

Referring to the student’s example, fairness through equality would mean that all students receive the same level of support. Those who need more support beyond this initial level to be successful would therefore not have the same opportunities as those who do not.

Equality would not be anyone who wears glasses; Justice gives glasses to those who need them so that they can see as clearly as anyone else. Equality is the pavement for everyone and objects on high shelves; Justice addresses the individual’s specific injuries and step stools used as needed. Even in early bedtime for small children, justice is at stake – their bodies need more rest. And once children begin to understand the difference between fairness and justice, they can develop their empathy for others.

Fauci mentioned Europe’s surge warns Covid because the US lifts restrictions

WASHINGTON – The White House Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Anthony Fauci, warned heads of state on Sunday that the nation’s fight against coronavirus was still “not in the end zone” and urged Americans to abide by public health measures as Europeans see new spikes in infection experience.

“When I hear how I withdraw completely from measures in the area of public health and say no more masks, nothing like that, it is a risky business,” said Fauci during an interview with “Meet the Press”.

“Don’t spike the ball on the five-yard line. Wait until you get to the end zone. We’re not in the end zone yet,” he said, adding that early public health withdrawals are adding to the pandemic could extend.

On Fox News, Fauci stated that the recent surge in cases across Europe was due in part to a loosening of security measures.

“If you see the level flattening out at a high level, there is always the risk of another increase, and unfortunately that’s exactly what is happening in Europe right now,” said Fauci on Fox News Sunday.

“They [Europeans] thought they were home free and they weren’t and now they’re seeing an increase, “he added.” If you wait just a bit longer to give the vaccination program a chance to increase protection in the community, then pulling back is much less risky. “

Fauci’s comments come as Europe stumbles upon vaccine administration and some countries report a third wave of the highly infectious disease.

“Eastern Europe looks very bad right now, Italy looks bad, but I think the US is in a very different situation,” said Dr. Scott Gottlieb during an interview on CBS’s Sunday program “Face the Nation”.

“I think we are in a different situation than Europe because of the vaccine immunity we are getting into the population,” added the former Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.

The U.S. administered 107 million vaccines on Sunday afternoon, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 27 percent of adults have received at least one dose so far.

According to a CNBC analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University, new infections with Covid in the US continued to decline, down 11% on Saturday compared to the previous week. However, according to the data, infections remain high, averaging more than 50,000 per day. In the US, an average of more than 1,400 people still die from the virus each day.

As the trends in the US are improving compared to the winter increase, Europe is now facing a new wave of infections. Italy, Germany, Poland and Hungary have reported severe peaks, and the Czech Republic and Slovakia have some of the highest death rates in the world.

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi locks the majority of the country on Easter weekend to curb the spread of the virus. Some regions of the country will be subject to stricter public health measures as of Monday.

German health officials have announced that the country is experiencing a third wave of the virus.

The rise in infections occurs as Europe struggles with the introduction of vaccines. Several European countries discontinued the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine after recipients reported blood clots. At least nine countries around the world, including Ireland, Denmark, Norway and Iceland, have stopped using the vaccine for safety reasons.

Last week, the World Health Organization said it had carefully examined the matter and determined that “the results and any changes to our current recommendations will be communicated to the public immediately”.

AstraZeneca said in a statement Friday that there is “no evidence” that the vaccine causes an increased risk of developing blood clots.

Last week, in his first prime-time address, President Joe Biden urged Americans to remain vigilant about the disease by following public health measures. Biden also set a goal for Americans to gather in small groups to celebrate July Fourth.

When asked if the July fourth goal was realistic, Gottlieb told CBS that he expected much of the country to look better before that holiday.

“I think when we get into April the situation will look better across the country, but there will be pockets with breakouts and there will be pockets in which some of these variations are more common,” said Gottlieb.

“Overall, I think the nation is still doing well,” he added.

Sitcoms (usually) have the best kitchens. This is of course because they’re fake, missing a whole wall, and supposed to make it easier for the cameras to get the angles they need. In addition to a swing door from the kitchen to the neighboring room, one of the other sitcom kitchen staples is a kitchen island.

Unfortunately, kitchen islands are not exactly standard in many houses and apartments. However, there is one way you can get extra storage space and counter without having to move: create your own island. One way to do this is by upcycling a bookshelf. It could be one you’ve been sitting around or a flea market find. Here’s how to do it, courtesy of Jenn Largesse, DIY expert and editor for That old house.

What should I do

Now that you have everything you need, it’s time to get started. For more information, see Largesse’s original post at That old housewhere she provides photos to accompany each step. But right now you’re turning a bookcase into a kitchen island: to Largesse::

Step 1: prepare the bookshelf

First, remove the back of the bookcase so that the shelves are open on both sides. Then clean the surface with warm water and a mild detergent. Fill in any dents or scratches with wooden spatula. Once the filler is completely dry, sand the areas smooth.

Step 2: add the trim boards

Hide any rough edges and fill all nail holes with wooden putty knife. Let that dry, then sand it smooth.

Step 3: prime the corners and cut them off

Apply the primer to the bookcase. Start with a paintbrush: apply paint in the corners and on the siding.

Step 4: prime the shelves and sides

Fill the paint tray with primer. Place the roller in the paint pan and roll until it is evenly coated. Then prime the flat shelves and sides. Once the primer is dry, smooth the finish lightly with a 220 grit sanding sponge.

Step 5: paint the corners

Use a paintbrush to apply the paint to the corners of the bookcase and siding.

Step 6: paint the shelves and sides

Fill the paint tray with paint. Place the roller in the paint pan and roll until it is evenly coated. Apply the paint to the shelves and sides of the bookcase. After the paint has dried, you can gently smooth the finish with a sanding sponge and apply a second coat if necessary.

Step 7: assemble the top

Now it’s time to make the countertop for the island. Assemble two 1 x 8 boards using pocket screws that are 2 inches longer than the width of the top of the bookcase. Wrap the edges with 1 x 2 boards secured with finish nails.

Step 8: Put on the protective contact paper

Cover the new top with self-adhesive contact paper. Wrap the paper over the top, sides, and bottom edge. Finally, center the countertop on the bookcase, then screw it up through the bookcase into the countertop to secure it in place.
