There is nostalgia and then there are the thirty flirty and blooming memories of 13 going on 30.

The classic frenemies from Rom-Com 2004, Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer, went to Instagram on Monday January 25th to share a blast from the past moment to her fans.

“Always the smartest. Always the funniest. Always the biggest @Dodgers fan in the room,” wrote actress Simon in the caption. “I love @missjudygreer. #TeamJG.”

To make the moment even more adorable, Jennifer added, “ps hey JG – do you remember how I said I wouldn’t post you? Sorry, but you’re cute.”

Even 16 years after its debut, the film is still as relevant as it was in the early 2000s. Who can forget Ariana Grande‘s tribute in her 2018 music video for “Thanks, Next”?

And while loved by anyone who can come down with the dance sequence from Michael JacksonIn “Thriller” video, Jennifer isn’t interested in getting her magic going again.

Preserve your iPhone 12 and its equipment away from pacemakers

If you or someone you know has an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), avoid using an iPhone 12 Heart rhythm diaryThe iPhone 12 and its accessories can interfere with the behavior of an ICD and even impair its function.

The study found that several components of the iPhone 12 “may potentially inhibit a patient’s life-saving therapy, especially when the phone is carried in the upper pockets”. This warning applies to all iPhone 12 devices, including the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Max, and iPhone 12 Max Plus. The iPhone 12’s MagSafe accessories are also at risk because of their magnets and NFC radios, especially the MagSafe charger and MagSafe Duo charger.

According to the study, the magnetic charging coils and RF-emitting components in these products are powerful enough to disrupt an ICD’s internal mechanisms that respond to magnetic fields. The researchers observed an immediate interruption of the ICD’s cardiovascular surgery when an iPhone was “brought close to the ICD over the left chest area.” The disturbance “persisted for the duration of the test.”

This carries serious health risks, including the possibility of heart failure or cardiac arrest. In order to educate users about the potential risks, Apple has updated its iPhone 12 Health and safety documentation with new guidelines based on the proposals in the report. Apple now recommends that users keep their iPhone 12 and MagSafe accessories more than 15 cm from their chest and more than 30 cm away when charging their phone wirelessly. Never put your iPhone in the breast pocket of your shirt or jacket.

While these warnings are specific to the iPhone 12 and its magnetic accessories, they are not the only products that can affect medical devices. A similar case study shows that smartwatches and fitness trackers can interfere with ICDs if they are within 1.5 inches of the ICD’s position in a patient’s chest. IPhone 12 interference is more severe – especially with wireless charging – but you should be careful when using smart devices around people with an ICD.

Europe’s largest clubs are facing an incredible £ 2 billion price tag for the Covid-19 pandemic.

Analysis by football finance expert Deloitte shows the impact of the crisis even on the game’s elite giants.

A significant casualty was Manchester United, who were eliminated from the top 3 of Deloitte’s “Money League” for the first time since 2013.

According to the Deloitte number crackers, the immediate result of the virus outbreak was Europe’s top 20 clubs lost £ 1.05 billion in income last year.

However, Deloitte expects that 2021 will have a similar impact on TV revenues and that total costs will return to £ 2bn in next season at the earliest – and even then likely to be limited.

Dan Jones, a partner in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, said: “There is no doubt that this is one of the toughest times the football industry has ever had to go through.

“While no football club has been immune to the challenges of Covid-19 and other clubs have suffered more in relative terms, those in the Money League have the greatest financial impact in terms of absolute value.

“For this year’s edition, the top 20 clubs averaged £ 363m per club, down £ 49m from 2018-19.”

Barcelona remain at the top of the money table despite earnings dropping £ 111.5m to £ 627.1m, less than £ 200,000 ahead of bitter rivals Real Madrid.

The decline from £ 119.1m to £ 509m – a consequence of the lack of the Champions League – dropped them to fourth place under Bayern Munich, despite the fact that Old Trafford Club was still the best-paid English footballer.

Manchester clubs have by far the worst net spending in the last decadeManchester clubs have by far the worst net spending in the last decade

Other Premier League teams in the top ten included Liverpool, whose £ 489.9million put them in the top five for the first time since 2001/02. Manchester City finished sixth with £ 481.6m, Chelsea eighth with £ 411.9m and Spurs ninth with £ 390.9m.

The numbers are unlikely to recover over the next 12 months, however, as Jones added, “The safe return of fans to stadiums in significant numbers is one of the top priorities in global football.

“Matchday operations are a cornerstone of a club’s business model and help drive other revenue-generating activities.

“The ultimate size of the financial impact of the pandemic on football will ultimately depend on the timing and extent of fans’ return.”

The UK coronavirus demise toll exceeds 100,000

LONDON – The official UK death toll from the coronavirus pandemic hit 100,000 on Tuesday. That was the grim milestone reached as a recent surge in infections continued to put pressure on hospitals and emergency services.

The latest government data showed an additional 1,631 people had died within 28 days of testing positive. To date, the UK has had over 3.6 million infections.

The UK has been particularly hard hit by the pandemic that hit the country almost a year ago. The first two reported Covid-19 cases occurred on January 31, 2020 in the tourist city of York, in northern England.

Now, a year later, the UK is in its third national lockdown, battling an increase in infections and subsequent hospitalizations and deaths caused by a more communicable variant of the virus. The mutation, first discovered in the south-east of England in September 2020, then spread to London and is now responsible for the majority of new infections in Great Britain. This has resulted in more people going to the hospital and putting the health system under extreme pressure.

The UK has the fifth highest number of cases in the world after the US, India, Brazil and Russia, according to Johns Hopkins University. France with around 3.1 million cases, followed by Italy and Spain with around 2.5 million cases each, but the UK has a higher death toll than its European neighbors.

Experts have attributed the UK’s harsh experiences during the pandemic to a number of factors, including the subsequent initial lockdown that caused it to struggle to gain control of the fast-spreading virus and hesitation about the following two lockdowns when the cases had already increased again, periods of relaxation. A poor testing and traceability system was also a factor.

On a more positive note, the UK is leading the world in its coronavirus vaccination campaign. It was the first country to approve and introduce the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, and the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

After the vaccination campaign started in early December, weeks before the EU, she has now vaccinated a large part of her priority groups. elderly and healthcare / nursing home workers and is now offering the vaccine to those over 70 and anyone at extreme risk.

To date, it has vaccinated over 6.8 million people with at least the first dose of a vaccine.

The right way to pull an efficient all-nighter when you must

0

Illustration for article titled How to Draw an Effective All-Nighter When You Have toPhoto: Chaay_Tee (Shutterstock)

Finals, due dates, exams and deadlines have one thing in common: They convince us that skipping sleep is a good idea. That’s certainly not true, but sometimes your only option is to pull an all-nighter to get things done. And if you have to go that route, you can get it right too.

First, let’s talk about what we mean by an “all-nighter”. Some people are naturally night owls and tend to have later schedules. If you work the evening shift, go to bed at 4 a.m. and wake up at noon, you don’t pull a night, you just have an atypical schedule. However, if you are planning on getting three hours of sleep tonight so you can meet that deadline, you are an all-nighter candidate. Before you grab this energy drink, ask yourself if it’s really worth it.

When to pull an all-nighter

It is of course unhealthy to deny your body sleep. As such, there is one rule above all for pulling an all night: Don’t. Obviously this isn’t always the most practical solution and some days you just have to work late. However, you should always keep in mind that reducing your sleep puts a strain on your body. If minimizing sleep is part of your typical routine, you will ruin any productivity benefits you would get from those extra hours.

Night owls are also not good for your memory, attention, or focus the next day. Staying up until 4 a.m. to study for a test at 8 a.m. is a bad idea. Just because you’ve spent all night reading words on pages doesn’t mean your brain kept the information. If you have to function the next day, reduce your losses – or at least compromise and get some sleep.

There are still situations where staying up all night may not be of any benefit that you would otherwise get:

  • When your next day’s workload is light. Driving through your job or class is a bad idea, but we all have slower days than others. Staying up late on Thursday to complete a project on Friday isn’t going to be nearly as bad when you only have to work a few hours for the rest of the day.
  • When you have time to take a nap. Sleep loss is a problem that only sleep can solve. Staying up all night getting a project done for the morning can be fine when you can find time to nap in the afternoon. If you stay up all night and can’t sleep for two days, reconsider.
  • If you haven’t pulled another all-nighter lately. Staying up all night means losing sleep. Staying up every night means permanently ruining your sleep schedule. If you’ve skipped a lot of sleep in the past few days, don’t repeat the process until you’re well rested.

How to approach the big night

Pulling an all-nighter should be treated like any other physically demanding endeavor: you need to make sure you have the right supplies and prepare before you go inside. If you know you will be skipping sleep, follow these guidelines:

If possible, take a nap

When you pull an all-nighter, you are stealing sleep from your future self. Make up for it by filling up your metaphorical tank before you go. The more sleep you can get beforehand, the less you will hurt yourself later. In an interview with how-to blog Art of Manliness, explains a former Navy SEAL Why it’s important to start an all-nighter with a nap:

Make sure you don’t fall behind while sleeping. When you know an all-nighter is coming, see if you can deposit a few extra hours in advance. That makes the well deeper when you need to dive into sleep reserves. It really works.

Taking a nap before going to work will be more good to the world than taking a nap in the middle. If you wait until you are already exhausted to “just take a quick nap,” you may not wake up for hours. The only thing worse than lack of sleep is lack of sleep and nothing to show. This would be a good time to brush up on that too Napping the right length of time for the brain boost you need.

Eat proteins, not carbohydrates

Your body needs something to burn to get through the night, especially when you are focused on a brain-intensive task like writing a paper. So grabbing some snacks or an extra meal is a good idea. However, what you eat is important. Instead of focusing on carbohydrates (potato chips, pizza, and most of the biggest nightly staples), focus on protein consumption. Why? Carbohydrates store energy for later and can even make you sleepier in the short term::

Everyone associates high-carb foods (like bread and pasta) with energy, but what they really do is prepare your body to exert energy. This means that just by exercising, the carbohydrates in your body set your wheels in motion.

According to Dr. Nathan Shier, an Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, professor of nutritional science, consuming high-carbohydrate foods releases high levels of a hormone called serotonin in the brain. Too much serotonin makes you sluggish. Translation? Stay away from high-carbohydrate meals before and during your studies or you will sleep on your keyboard at night.

Proteins will be much more helpful in guiding you through the night. So instead of a bag of Doritos and some cookies, grab some jerk and a protein drink.

Grab some caffeine (but cut it out first)

Caffeine is the obvious staple of staying up late all night. While this isn’t exactly the healthiest option, energy drinks are effective in keeping you updated and even improving focus (although you’ll crash later). The trick, however, is to avoid caffeine, which leads to your protest against sleep. Once again, The art of masculinity explained How drinking caffeine during the day reduces the effectiveness of the drug at night:

Unsurprisingly, all of the SPEC-OPS people we spoke to recommended consuming caffeine all night. According to everyone, the trick is to get off the caffeine the day before and the day before your night. Your body and mind develop a tolerance to caffeine. So if you’ve been knocking back the coffee continuously all week, it won’t have as much of an impact during your 24/7 vigil.

This effect strongly suggests reducing or eliminating the amount of caffeine in your diet in general. Caffeine has a tangible and sometimes useful one Effect on your brainHowever, if you use it all the time, it will be the least helpful when you need it most. It’s also worth noting once again that this scenario is far from ideal. We all know what desperate times take, but using caffeine to avoid sleep regularly kills your productivity, focus, and even memory.

Exercise regularly

The effects of exercise on your brain and productivity cannot be overstated. Just like a quick 20 minute workout can help your brain right before an examExercise can help improve your brain’s ability to learn and store information, as well as improve creative thinking. We call this feature Neuroplasticity.

Of course, you don’t want to exhaust yourself with a full body workout. However, if you go for a walk, do a few push-ups or jumping jacks, or do something that gets your blood flowing, your brain will stay on track. This is a fundamental physiological response to thousands of years of evolution: if prehistoric humans fall asleep while fleeing danger, they are unlikely to live long. When your body is exercising physical energy, it signals to your brain that now is the time to be alert and focused and not drift into dreamland.

When you’re done, rest and regroup

You made it through the night, completed the project, finished the paper, built the combat robot, or whatever you need to do. You met your deadline and the deed is done. Now is the time to get back on track. It will be tempting to rush as soon as you get home – and taking a nap can help you get through the day! – but to get back on your schedule properly, wait for your usual bedtime to collapse. At the very least, you shouldn’t go to bed more than a few hours earlier than you normally would. When you do this, make sure you get a full night of sleep.

The most important recovery technique of all is to stop dragging the night owls as much as possible. Especially if you’re in college or have a demanding job, it can be tempting to work with minimal amounts of sleep and maximal amounts of energy drinks. This will affect your productivity in the long run (not to mention the impact sleep loss can have on the brain). It can also mean developing good sleeping habits Overall, you need less sleep anyway. So when the time for crisis comes and you just need to get this one important project done, do what you have to do. But don’t make a lifestyle out of it.

Jimmy Fallon surprises MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki by cleansing his workplace

Not all heroes wear capes.

To thank MSNBCs Steve Kornacki for his impeccable reporting – from the presidential campaign to the presidential inauguration in 2021 Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris– –Jimmy Fallon snuck into his messy office for a thorough clean.

“We’re in khaki land now,” said the Tonight Show host as he walked into MSNBC’s New York City headquarters. “It feels like I’m in a horror video game or in a level of Five Nights with Freddy where I get scared of jumping and come out like a teddy bear – a bad teddy bear – or a clown will come out.”

Immediately Jimmy went into Steve’s empty office and whispered loudly, “No, no! Are you kidding me? Oh my god. What happened, Steve? Kornacki, what’s wrong?”

The late-night host asked, half-jokingly, if the political correspondent was staying in the office before going to work.

“These gloves aren’t even for COVID, they’re just for this office,” Jimmy said as he started picking things up and moving things around. “Look at all of these ties. Who pre-tied ties?”

Italy’s Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte resigns within the political disaster

Italy faces more political turmoil after Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte stepped down on Tuesday, at a time the country is facing a serious health and economic crisis.

Italy has been mired in political uncertainty for the past three weeks after a small party, Italia Viva, decided to withdraw from the Conte-led coalition government. The break came after a dispute over EU pandemic recovery funds and their payouts that plunged the nation into instability.

Earlier on Tuesday, Conte, who has no political affiliation, informed his ministers that he was stepping down. He then submitted his official resignation to President Sergio Mattarella. The President has reportedly asked Conte to continue to act as caretaker while consultations are taking place on the formation of a new government.

However, the resignation is widely viewed as an attempt to avoid a parliamentary defeat in a Senate vote later this week.

The bottom line is that Italy continues to be ruled by a leader who is unsuitable for the tough job ahead.

Wolfgango Piccoli

Co-President Teneo

Conte narrowly weathered a vote of confidence last week, but his government was stripped of a functioning majority with Italia Viva leaving, making it difficult to pass important laws for the rest of his mandate.

“After Conte and his government failed in their desperate efforts to expand their majority, they should be defeated in a new vote in the Senate, currently scheduled for January 27,” said Wolfango Piccoli, co-president of the Consulting firm Teneo, in a note.

He said Conte’s resignation was an attempt “to ensure his own political survival”.

Mattarella must now decide whether to give Conte the opportunity to negotiate with lawmakers again and look for a majority that will allow him to rule.

“Conte’s calculation is that by taking an early step and avoiding a humiliating Senate defeat later this week, he would increase his chances of winning a mandate from Mattarella to form a new government,” Piccoli said. However, he added, “It is currently unclear whether Conte can succeed in such an effort.”

If Italian lawmakers fail to reach an agreement on a new coalition government with or without Conte as prime minister, voters will have to vote sooner rather than later.

Italy, the first EU country to be severely affected by the pandemic, has recorded more than 2 million Covid infections and over 85,000 deaths, according to John Hopkins University.

Eat half of your bagel on high of the opposite

0

Illustration for article titled Eat One Half Your Everything Bagel Over the OtherPhoto: Brent Hofacker (Shutterstock)

There are two types of bag eater: those who eat their bagels halfway and those who eat them as a sandwich, even if cream cheese is the only filling. If you’re a member of the second group (like my friend) the following tiny but clever hack isn’t for you. But if you are a member of the first group (my group): welcome, I have a suggestion.

Illustration for article titled Eat One Half Your Everything Bagel Over the Other

The best bagels in my opinion are the ones that have things on the outside. All bagels and onion bagels are my favorites, although I don’t hate poppy seeds. The only flaw with these bagels is that the stuff tends to fall off while you eat the bagel which is a real loss because the stuff is delicious.

So I always examine each half of my bagel, determine which has the most items (there is always a clear winner), and then eat that half over half with fewer items. The stuff then falls into the cream cheese on half the bagel with less stuff, which not only prevents something from being wasted but also corrects the pulp ratio. I think of what is known as “mindful eating,” but I’m not positive. (I also examine each side of each Dorito to see which is the most flavorful, and then eat them side down, toward my tongue.)

If you are a bagel sandwich eater, all is not lost. You can always eat your bagel over something, like a nice green salad or a couple of cucumbers (sprinkled with some cream cheese). Anything to do with bagels is pretty good for foods that aren’t bagels. You can also let any of these foods benefit from the excess.
